2021 RHP Summer Scholars

Hannah Simms

Hannah attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, graduating with her BA in English in 2018. Following graduation, she moved to Madrid where she taught English to elementary school children as a Cultural and Language Assistant for a year and traveled around Europe before pursuing her MSc at the University of Edinburgh. During her time in Edinburgh, she developed a strong interest in the representation of femininity and feminine roles in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century novels. She is especially interested in the use and effect of conduct books on the perception of femininity of the time, and the ways in which women writers in particular challenged or accepted those ideals. She hopes to continue studying women and femininity in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century novels and having meaningful conversations with people who inspire her.

Laura Conoly

Laura Conoly is a rising senior at UNC Chapel Hill studying English with a concentration in writing, editing, and digital publishing. She enjoys horror and true crime novels and spending time with her dog Winston.

Madison Casey

Madison Casey grew up in Scottsdale, AZ, but her family moved to Wake Forest, NC several years ago. After receiving a B.A. in Psychology from Christopher Newport University, she is currently pursuing an M.A. in English from Wake Forest University with the hopes of working in publishing. Her current favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien and Brian K. Vaughan.
