Kevin was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida where he developed a love for Southern food and an abhorrence of racial injustice. As a young teen, he discovered punk rock music, which fundamentally changed the way he looked at the world. Punk gave him the tools to be a cultural producer, a critical thinker, and an activist dedicated to making the world a better place.
He went on to earn several academic degrees and has published a number of scholarly books on a range of topics from African politics to international relations. He also continued being an active participant in punk scenes wherever he found himself.
Today, he plays in several bands, runs a small record label, publishes zines, owns a recording studio, and writes about punk in various ways, from his 2016 book Global Punk: Resistance and Rebellion in Everyday Life to regular contributions in Razorcake magazine.
While thinking about ways to smash the patriarchy and resist racial injustice, Kevin also strives to make perfect biscuits, pies, and cornbread waffles. He lives with his partner Anna, their two daughters, a dog named Tofu and a cat named Pittenweem. Together, they split their time between Western New York state and Western North Carolina.
Fitzroy Books is proud to publish Kevin’s work of middle grade fiction My Middle Name is Vicious in 2022.
